Preparation (Prep) Room

The prep room is the hub of the practice. This is where animals are first seen on admission, where day patients recover and where minor non-surgical procedures are carried out. It is in the prep room that animals requiring surgical procedures are first anaesthetised, have hair clipped and prepared for surgery. After leaving surgery they return to this area where they can be easily observed by a veterinary nurse and recover in heated kennels.

Modern anaesthetic drugs including propofol and sevoflurane are administered via intravenous catheters or in piped oxygen via one of several modern anaesthetic machines in the prep room and the other clinical areas.

At one end of the prep room is the dental area. Here we have all the equipment for routine dental surgery including an ultrasonic scaler, polisher, specialist tools for extracting and filling teeth and a dental x-ray machine.
